YOUTH EXCHANGE POLAR BEAR DIP
January 25, 2025
in Campbellford
Our Outbound Youth Exchange Student, Lorenzo Favi, from Italy joined other Youth Exchange Students from our District 7070 and from District 7010 in Campbellford on Saturday, January 25 to participate in the polar bear dip to raise funds for the Campbellford District Hospital. The students raised over $1,000 in pledges.
Local reporter Pete Fisher posted a video on YouTube about the polar bear dip. The students get ready to go in the water at 12:40 on the video. They went back in a second time because someone offered them a pledge of $50 more if they took the challenge. Here is the link to the video.
In other Youth Exchange news, our club will team up with Cobourg and Northumberland Sunrise Rotary Clubs to participate in the Youth Exchange Program for the 2025 - 26 Rotary year. Ron Tuttle will be the Youth Exchange Officer responsible for the administrative part of the program and Laurie McKeen from Cobourg will be the Counsellor for our new Inbound Student when he or she arrives next August. Denise O'Brien is the Youth Exchange Rep from Northumberland Sunrise Club. Each club will provide one host family for the Inbound Student. We should find out details about our next Inbound Student in late March or early April.
After our recent interviews, we chose Lily Hall, a student at Cobourg Collegiate Institute, to be our Outbound Student. Lily is a top academic student. She is a grade 10 rep on Student Council. She participates in many sports. She is a provincial champion in Muay Thai martial arts. She also likes to bake and take cooking classes.
Lily and Lorenzo will go to the District Youth Exchange Orientation in Mattawa from February 7 - 9. Lily will find out which country that she will go to during the weekend.
Ron will invite Lily to one of our Rotary meetings so that she can meet club members.
