Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny River Race - April 12, 2025

The annual Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny Race on April 12 was great success with 41 crazy crafts and 77 canoes and kayaks braving the cold water of the Ganaraska River.  The river in downtown Port Hope was lined with spectators.  The river race commemorates the flood that the town experienced in 19080.  The day was chilly but not as cold as expected and thankfully there was no rain or snow. Spirits of paddlers, Rotarians and helpers were high.

Our club donated $500 to purchase hot chocolate and snacks for the race participants at the end of the race.  The cold and wet paddlers were most appreciative of the hot chocolate and treats.

Thank you to Bruce Coleman for organizing the event and a big thank you to all those stalwart Rotarians, Friends of Rotary, Globe Students, and Interactor(s) who kindly devoted their time to help out.

Bruce Coleman, John Mowat and Jim Millington worked the first shift on the Rotary booth, and Jan Boycott, Bob Gibson, Olga Chernuk and Chris Collins covered the second shift along with the high school student volunteers. Thank you to Stephen from the Globe School, and to Lucas and Sophie from PHHS Interact Club.

Co-Chairs of the event, Barry Adamson and Barrileigh Price, are looking for new leaders for this important town event after running the river race for the last 15 years.
