Rotary Club of Port Hope - Our History
The Rotary Club of Port Hope had its beginning in 1922 when the 22 Charter members attended the inaugural banquet in the Port Hope Town Hall on March 20th. A total of 105 members and guests were present. Including Rotarians from Oshawa, Belleville, Trenton, Toronto and Cobourg.
The Charter Night was held on May 18, 1922 when the Charter was presented to the first President Mr. A.C. Kimmell by District Governor Seely of New York. Our Club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Oshawa and many members of that Club were present for our Charter Night.
Over the years the Club has held its meetings in a number of locations, including the Royal Hotel, the Queens Hotel, Greenwood Towers, the St. Lawrence Hotel, Idalia (the Port Hope Golf Club), the Port Hope Legion and the Welcome Country Inn. The day and time of meetings has varied considerably, including Friday Luncheon Monday Luncheon, Friday Dinner and Monday Dinner.
